After crossing the Oklahoma / Texas border, you can almost immediately tell you are in Texas ... at least I can tell. Here are my top five ways I know I'm in Texas:
5. Since I've been gone for over eight months, there is so much that has changed. However, it is so great to know where you are after two days of driving threw states I don't know where the next gas station is.
4. While working for the Texas Motor Speedway last year, I became really familiar with local companies who advertise there. While driving south on I-35 W, you can spot a lot of these companies ... not to mention the speedway itself.
3. The sky can be gray, dark and have every sign of rain, and two minutes later, the sun is out and you can see the clearest blue sky.
2. While driving through Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma, I saw maybe five state flags total. As soon as you get into Texas, there are Texas state flags all over.

So, last night, I attempted to climb the ladder to paint the trim next to the ceiling. The very worst part was when I was climbing down the ladder. It was really scary. I had to have my mom stand at the bottom for good measure...and to convince myself I was safe. I think Heidi took it upon herself to scare me as much as she could. She would go upstairs and try to convince me to turn around and look at how I was still higher than her, even though she was upstairs.
She also kept startling me by gasping and making noises that made me jump...but I am a really jumpy person, so I guess it isn't that hard to do and probably not on purpose. Now, however, the entry is done. We just have to finish the rest of the house.... Joy.
