The Rains Came Down and The Floods Came Up

So, as Texas is experiencing one of the wettest Junes on record, which also mean major flash flooding. At our house, every single flash flood is evident because the creek in our back yard is where all the run off goes. On Tuesday evening, while driving home from work I knew it was pretty bad because Silver Sage, a street leading into our subdivision, was completely under water. When I got home I immediately went to the back door to check out the creek and I was surprised to see that I could still see some of the highest parts of the flood plane. I was soaking wet from the down pour of rain, so I went up stairs to change my pants and I came back downstairs. I went back to the back door to watch the rain and the creek had rising probably a foot or two in seriously a minute to a minute and a half. Talk about flash flooding! The water only continued to rise throughout the storm. At its highest level it was the second highest it has ever gotten in the ten years we have lived there. (The first highest was in April of this year.)
When the creek is this high, it starts to overtake our hammock and tree swing and with both of our parents gone on church assignments, Heather decided she had to rescue the hammock. I know this is horrible to even attempt to save the hammock because that means getting in the flood waters, which have claimed 11 lives since last week, but umm, she did.

She was safe and when my mom found out she got mad, especially the next day when she found out someone died. Well, in honor of this blog, it has started to storm again...just in time for me to leave work and go home. Man, nothing is ever convenient for me right now.

Sanding

I started sanding down my drawers in my room because I want to paint all my furniture black soon. It was not very fun. I only made it past one drawer last night. The worst part of it all is that I can't seem to get all the residue off and clean enough to paint. This project may not be the easiest I've undertaken, but I really want to redo my room. It's too bad that I basically have to redo everything and start from scratch because I'm not keeping anything the same...I don't think. At least I have a good project for me to do while I'm not applying for jobs or working. :)

Children of the Promise Series

Since graduating and not being able to find a job, I have found time to read fiction books. I love that I can stay in the house all day and up all night and read. It has been really nice, but at the same time, I'm starting to get anxious to move on with my life...but I won't get into that now. Anyway, I've been reading the Children of the Promise series by Dean Hughes. It is so great, I'd recommend it. It is about an LDS family during World War II. They are very moving stories, that are hard to read at some points as the story moves through the war.

I am really silly. I've tried to read them as fast as possible so the war would be over for the characters as soon as possible. It doesn't always work that way since I've been working a temp job on and off, but I've tried my best to make the character's lives a little easier by getting through the war as soon as possible. I am finally on the fifth and final book. I am so excited now that the war is over and the characters start to come home, but I've grown attached to them and will be sad to see the series end.
